MY PHILOSOPHY: Music education is creative and fruitful. Students have the opportunity to express emotion, thought, compose music, model tuneful singing, and analyzing skills. I provide my students with various tools as means for self-expression. Whether the student pursues art, math, reading, writing, history, or science, the music education taught aids expression and critical thinking skills. Students will also learn about their culture and the impact music has in our lives.
In my classroom, students feel comfortable, care about each other's success, and grow a desire to learn. In fostering this environment, the care, skills, respect, and safety should radiate first through me. I am available for my students and parents through email, scheduled and requested meetings, and open office hours to discuss and create a personalized plan for the success of the student. Teacher, peer, and parent support creates and fosters a caring, supportive, and educational environment.
Through studies and personal experience, I am aware of the need to implement multiple teaching strategies to accommodate each students' learning style. I, myself, had a difficult time leaning in class. I would invest a great amount of time studying outside of the classroom than other colleagues. However, I will not allow my students to struggle the way I did in class. Therefore, when creating my lesson plans, I will include several teaching strategies that will give the students an opportunity to learn by hearing, seeing, touching, singing, reading, writing, counting, and adding. Depending on the students' demonstration of learning, I will create my lesson plans to meet each students' needs.
Education, just as experience, is unlimited. Every human should have access to essential basic learning materials, a healthy and supportive environment, and diverse teaching strategies and skills. Education is a human right that must be lived and protected. Age, size, race, gender, sexual orientation, beliefs, and practices should not limit learning or teaching approach. A supportive, peaceful, respectful, educational, and caring environment is in our hands.
I plan on growing as an educator by learning from professional developments hosted on and off campus. I will implement attained knowledge into instruction. I will continue to take courses for certification in Orff and Kodaly, attend TMEA Seminars, and ACDA.
