Welcome to Winnetka Elementary’s Music Class. I am excited for a fun and educational school year! Your child will be learning music fundamentals like rhythm reading, tunefully singing, instrument playing (varies depending on grade level), creating and recreating music with classroom instruments, music vocabulary and interpretation, composing rhythms, and performing. Our Winnetka students have the opportunity to perform ine the Winter Concert, Spring Carnival, and their monthly grade level PTA meeting based on performance readiness.
This year, our Visual & Performing Arts Department is sponsoring three off-campus learning activities for our 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grade students. Second grade will be going to the Dallas Children's Theater in October of 2017 to exhibit audience etiquette during a live performance (TEK 3-6.A) of Goosebumps The Musical: Phantom Of The Auditorium and analyze this musical using specific music vocabulary (TEK 3-6.E). Third grade will be going to the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House in November of 2017 to exhibit audience etiquette during a live performance (TEK 3-6.A) of the Texas Ballet Theater, and fifth grade will be at the Meyerson Symphony Hall in January of 2018 to exhibit audience etiquette during a live performance (TEK 3-6.A) and analyze the music performed by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra using specific music vocabulary (TEK 3-6.E).
Winnetka offers an after school music club, The Wildcat Music Ensemble, that meets every Tuesday from 3:15-4:30 p.m. in Pt.5. If you have a child in 3rd, 4th, and/or 5th grade that loves to sing and willing to invest more time in instrument playing (xylophones, congas, and other instruments in the percussion family), they may apply to join our Wildcat Music Ensemble.
Thank you for visiting my website, and I wish you all a great year!
